There is no right or wrong way to sing, only better ways to use your voice to maintain your vocal health. Each person has their own sound and the goal is to give you the tools to enable you to use your voice in an optimal way.

For this you need a technique. In your lesson your vocal level will firstly be assessed and you will be given a few basic technical exercises on breathing and producing various sounds. I incorporate some of the methods of Joe Estill whom I have studied at Levels 1 and 2, along with my own experience as a cross genre singer. You will also have the chance at each lesson to work on a piece of your own choice or a suitable song of my choice tailored to your needs.

It is important to note that there are no quick ways to learn how to use your voice properly, it takes time and commitment on both your part and mine. Singing should be fun, so let's enjoy it together!

Testimonials

"Gaye MacFarlane is a seasoned performer and sensational teacher of singing. Within half an hour during my first lesson with her, my range had increased by a semi-tone through her ability to hear and diagnose issues quickly and to explain the solution clearly. I am no longer afraid of high notes! I am everlastingly grateful to her for the excellent advice. Gaye not only has a sound understanding of vocal technique but is herself a highly qualified musician; this means she is able to provide piano accompaniment and to suggest interpretative options that open your mind as to how you might interpret a piece. She is also tremendous fun!"

"We recently took advantage of Gaye visiting Australia and organised two master classes at the Phoenix Theatre. Phoenix is a training ground and development theatre space for up and coming professionals. Gaye’s master classes were just that – a class with a master: her ability to pinpoint issues with performances, in a caring and informed way, and to guide performers to better themselves was remarkable. All of the performers cherish their time and have shown remarkable improvement, not only in their performances, but also in understanding their voice and how to approach a role. We look forward to running further master classes and workshops whenever Gaye is back in Australia."
